Mindset

Your performance will be determined by your state.  Your state is a manifestation of your thought patterns – how you think, what you believe, and your ability or inability to control your thinking.  In athletics, fear, the greatest mental block, is basically uncontrolled thinking.

One way in is to work on your ability to control your thinking – > better experience (proving yourself wrong) -> change your beliefs = less mental blocks = better performance.

Here’s a frequency state chart I came up with.  Flow is the most optimal state.  Fear is the most hindering.

FLOW

Presence

Certainty

Optimism

Response (controlled)

INNER CONFLICT

Resistance

Reactive

Pulling from cognitive distortions (faulty thinking)

Pulling from false beliefs (based on your story)

Pessimism

Uncertainty / doubt

FEAR

We fluctuate up and down this chart as we do Wods.  The goal to optimizing your mental state would be to stay above the mid line, INNER CONFLICT.  That’s where the road forks.

The question is how.
